Hello, gentle readers. Kind of you to drop by. I haven’t been sure what to say for quite a while. The world seems bursting at the seams with content, and my voice hasn’t felt very strong. But I take such pleasure in listening to, and seeing, the creative work of people I have met over the years. So when I came across some old paintings and drawings as I was clearing out my childhood home, I thought: aha. I could share this.
So: here we go! Above is a detail from a life-sized self-portrait I did at university, which I was unsatisfied with for a number of reasons. But now I can look at it more generously, and appreciate the composition, and certain moments of how the paint is handled. There is something deeply satisfying in asking the pixels of today to portray the brush strokes I made decades ago.
I would like to paint again.
